Dodgen Band Student Recognition Program

Many of our Dodgen band students are recognized throughout the year for outstanding achievement in instrumental music.  The areas for recognition are outlined below.

GMEA Honor Band and All-State Band

Students have the opportunity to earn a seat in the GMEA District 12 Honor Band and the GMEA All-State Band through an audition process.  The audition consists of performing four major scales (as posted on WWW.GMEA.org) from memory plus the chromatic scale for the full range of the student's instrument from memory.  In addition to scales, students must successfully sightread two musical samples which are written in contrasting styles. Students preparing for the All-State Band audition must prepare the etude for their specific instrument as posted on WWW.GMEA.org.  Students performing in one or both of these groups will also earn a GMEA medal.  Audition dates are posted on our band web site www.Dodgenband.org and will be posted in the band room on the main bulletin board

Students earning a seat in the All-State band will have a plaque on permanent display in the band room on the All-State Band Wall of Fame.

GMEA Solo & Ensemble Festival

GMEA sponsors a Solo & Ensemble Festival where students have the opportunity to perform as a soloist or as a member of a small ensemble (duet, trio, quartet, quintet, etc.)  Students wishing to participate need to pay all required fees by the deadline posted on the Dodgen Band Schedule. Students awarded the rating of superior (I) or Excellent (II) will earn a GMEA medal.  Those receiving ratings of Good (III), Fair (IV), or Poor (V) will not earn medals.

Dodgen Awards

Each year during the last week of school, band students are recognized for their achievements at an awards ceremony and reception which takes place during the school day and during the student's regularly schedule exploratory time.  The list below reflects the awards students can earn.  One award is presented in each category for each grade level band.  Perfect attendance at all mandatory concert performances is one of the criteria for awards eligibility in this category.

Outstanding Flute Student for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

Outstanding Clarinet Student for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

(includes soprano and bass clarinets as one section)

Outstanding Saxophone Student for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

(includes alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones as one section)

Outstanding Oboe Student for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

Outstanding Bassoon Student for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

Outstanding Trumpet Student for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

Outstanding French Horn Student for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

Outstanding Percussion Student for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

Outstanding Euphonium Student for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

Outstanding Tuba Student for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

Most Improved Band Student for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

Citizenship Award for the 6th, 7th  and 8th Grade
