Dodgen Band Students Create Selections  for the Spring Ensemble Recital

Two Dodgen Band students, Aly and Paul, performed their own arrangement/composition on the Dodgen Band Spring Recital.  Aly arranged a woodwind duet and was joined by Shannon for the premier performance. Percussionist, Paul, composed a new piece for percussion quartet and was joined by Stephen, Ben, and Christian for the premier performance. Use the links below to listen to these two selections.

Disney Invites the Dodgen Band to Perform!

Congratulations to our current 7th grade Band! A recording of their spring concert was recently submitted as an audition tape and the group was invited to present a public performance on the Waterside Stage at Downtown Disney! The students will spend three days in the parks on February 23rd, 24th, and 25th, 2012 as part of this public performance trip. Our Band students will be serving as musical ambassadors representing Dodgen Middle School, the city of Marietta, and Cobb County as they perform for thousands of visitors from around the world.  This event will add to an already exciting 8th grade year for these band students. 8th Grade Band: GMEA performance Evaluation Results 2011

Congratulations to the awesome Dodgen 8th Grade Band for their performance 3-15-2011 at the GMEA performance evaluation! Using the new, more rigorous, evaluation sheet, the number of subcategories increased from 21 to 45. Of these 45 categories, the 8th Grade Band was awarded the grade of "A" in 42 subcategories and the grade of "B" in 3 subcategories. This resulted in an overwhelmingly high SUPERIOR rating, the highest rating awarded by GMEA!

The 8th grade Band also received the highest rating of SUPERIOR for their sightreading of a 65 measure piece of music which contained changes in tempo, key signature, and style. The sightreading piece was packed full with accidentals and syncopated rhythms. The 8th Grade Band received the grade of "A" in all subcategories for sightreading. Congratulations again to these fine students for their display of outstanding musicianship and team effort!

Building Friendships in The Band!

Two Dodgen Band alumni, T.J. Cobb and Andrew Stamm, are now having a great time playing trombone at the college level. Andrew and T.J. had an opportunity to perform on the same field in Atlanta this year as their two college football teams participated in a bowl game held in Atlanta. (picture below). After completing the 8th grade at Dodgen, T.J. and Andrew became members of the Walton High School Band. This is just one example of the life-long friendships that develop through participation in the Dodgen Band!
