The Band's Annual Cheesecake Sale

Delivery and Pick-Up Day

Our Band cheesecake orders will arrive Wednesday, November 9th.  Students will bring home a pickup ticket for parents to use when returning to school Wednesday evening to pick up orders. Parents are asked to follow the traffic flow map attached to the pickup ticket.  After handing the pickup ticket to a band parent volunteer, the order will be filled and brought out to the car. All are asked help insure orders are filled correctly. A parent volunteer will fill the order, a different parent will take the order out to the car, and the receiving parent will reconfirm with a signature that the order was received and complete. Unfortunately, we will not be able to replace items claimed as missing after the parent drives off campus and has signed the form indicating the order was filled correctly. Please check order carefully before signing the confirmation form and before driving off campus.

PLEASE NOTE there is no location on the Dodgen campus to keep frozen items overnight for those forgetting to pick up orders.  Those parents who experience a schedule conflict will need to give their pickup ticket  to a relative or neighbor so that the order is picked up Wednesday evening. There is nothing we can do to assist those who do not make arrangements to have orders picked up before 7:30 PM, Wednesday, November 9th. Thank you in advance for helping the delivery and pick-up process run as smoothly as possible.

The following methods of communication will be used to inform all parents of the pickup and delivery information: (1) students will be informed verbally in class, (2) students will be given written details to bring home to parents, (3) information will be posted on the Band website, (4) information will be posted on Dr. Jackson's blog, (5)  information will be posted on the Dodgen  Band online  calendar, (6) reminders will be sent to parents via the Email address submitted to the Band office during the first week of school, (8) information will sent to all parents via the Dodgen PTSA emessage system, and (8) a recorded message will be sent to all parents using the InTouch automated phone calling system. Please contact your Band parent representative now if you anticipate a problem picking up an order.

Disney Invites the Dodgen Band to Perform!

Congratulations to our current 7th grade Band! A recording of their spring concert was recently submitted as an audition tape and the group was invited to present a public performance on the Waterside Stage at Downtown Disney! The students will spend three days in the parks on February 23rd, 24th, and 25th, 2012 as part of this public performance trip. Our Band students will be serving as musical ambassadors representing Dodgen Middle School, the city of Marietta, and Cobb County as they perform for thousands of visitors from around the world.  This event will add to an already exciting 8th grade year for these band students. Congratulations to our 2011-2012 8th Grade Band for being selected to perform!

8th Grade Band: GMEA performance Evaluation Results 2011

Congratulations to the awesome Dodgen 8th Grade Band for their performance 3-15-2011 at the GMEA performance evaluation! Using the new, more rigorous, evaluation sheet, the number of subcategories increased from 21 to 45. Of these 45 categories, the 8th Grade Band was awarded the grade of "A" in 42 subcategories and the grade of "B" in 3 subcategories. This resulted in an overwhelmingly high SUPERIOR rating, the highest rating awarded by GMEA!

The 8th grade Band also received the highest rating of SUPERIOR for their sightreading of a 65 measure piece of music which contained changes in tempo, key signature, and style. The sightreading piece was packed full with accidentals and syncopated rhythms. The 8th Grade Band received the grade of "A" in all subcategories for sightreading. Congratulations again to these fine students for their display of outstanding musicianship and team effort!

Building Friendships in The Band!

Two Dodgen Band alumni, T.J. Cobb and Andrew Stamm, are now having a great time playing trombone at the college level. Andrew and T.J. had an opportunity to perform on the same field in Atlanta this year as their two college football teams participated in a bowl game held in Atlanta. (picture below). After completing the 8th grade at Dodgen, T.J. and Andrew became members of the Walton High School Band. This is just one example of the life-long friendships that develop through participation in the Dodgen Band!

The Dodgen Band Welcomes a  new Staff Member

We welcome Mr. Bob Lewis to the Dodgen Band staff this year as our Low Brass Choir clinician. Please take a moment to read about Mr. Lewis and the wealth of experience he has to offer our Dodgen Band students. We are fortunate to have Mr. Bob Cowles and Mr. Vince Jackson back with us again to work with students periodically during class time. You can read about all Dodgen Band clinicians on our STAFF link.
